Anti-Streptolysin 0 antibody recognizes Streptolysin 0 (SL0), which is a membrane-damaging extracellular toxin produced by hemolytic streptococci. In the hemolytic streptococci infection, the antibodies to various proteins secreted from the bacteria such as toxins increase. The measurement of the Anti-Streptolysin 0 (ASLO) is widely used for diagnostic confirmation of hemolytic streptococci infection.
The product was prepared by immunizing rabbit with purified recombinant SL0 of Group C hemolytic streptococci produced in E. coli as antigen. Using this antiserum it is possible to detect the SL0 secreted into the culture supernatant not only of Group A hemolytic streptolysin 0 but also of Group C and G.
This antiserum was prepared from SL0 that was over-expressed in E. coli as recombinant protein and purified, so the antiserum is extremely specific.
