Phloretin is a cell-permeable protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor (IC50 = 20-50 �M) and a PGF2a receptorantagonist. In astrocytes, these receptors are linked to phospholipase C, thus affecting phosphoinositide hydrolysis and intracellular Ca2+ levels. It inhibits L-type Ca2+ channel activity. Phloretin also inhibits myo-inositol uptake and serve as a potent inhibitor of 5''-iodothyronine deiodinase.
