Biolipidure Reagents enhance sensitivity and specificity in ELISAs, rapid tests, and other immunoassays by decreasing non-specific binding and stabilizing antibody-antigen complexes. These wholly synthetic biocompatible BSA substitutes provide more effective blocking than BSA and generally improve overall signal to noise.

Since they are non-biological polymers, Biolipidure reagents are not susceptible to degration and protease digestion, like BSA or casein. The Biolipidure polymers are extremely stable at high temperature and over multiple freeze-thaw cycles. This characteristic increases the robustness of reagents containing these compounds, enables antibodies to remain functional longer, and extends the shelf-life of immunoassay kits.

Also, since they are completely synthetic, Biolipidure reagents do not require any special handling normally associated with animal-derived materials and there is negligible lot-to-lot variation. There is no need to optimize for each lot and purchase large amounts of a single lot to obtain consistent results.

As can be seen from the structure, the basic Biolipidure monomer contains a functional side group which introduces some variability to the different polymers. The specific molecular weights, hydrophilicity-hydrophobicity, and ionic properties of the side groups produce a range of Biolipidure reagents whose secondary characteristics vary. Some variants will block or stabilize better than others under certain experimental conditions. Based on experience, we can suggest certain variants for different immunoassays. For example, we typically recommend Biolipidure-206 and Biolipidure-802 for ELISAs and Biolipidure-203 and Biolipidure-1002 for Tubidimetric assays. However, researchers will likely want to try several variants to determine which works optimally for their assay conditions. Once a particular Biolipidure is identified, you have the confidence of using the exactly the same precisely synthesized reagent to obtain exactly the same results every time the assay is run.
